ABSTRACT
Many researchers have argued that implementing an operations strategy in services is primarily done through the use of human resources, both at the individual and organizational level. This study tests the proposition that operational performance of service firms can be empirically measured by using partial representative of the McKinsey 7 S Model. In this study, the authors develop measurements of three of the seven components of the McKinsey’s Model and test three hypotheses about the effect of strategic implementation on firm performance using NBA data.
Overall, the findings indicate that our partial utilization of the Model to be an effective tool in examining operational performance among NBA franchises. As a result, we feel that further research into the effectiveness of the remaining four components may be merited. The relative effectiveness of each of the three components was examined using a hierarchical regression model.
