FOOTBALLER VALUATIONS: WORLD CLASS FOOTBALL PLAYERS, POSITIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND TRANSFER FEES

ABSTRACT
This study aims to create a model to value European football players by comparing a
player’s transfer fee and then measuring their value based on performances in the season after the
transfer has occurred. The model is applied to Europe’s top five leagues: the English Premier
League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, and the German Bundesliga. The study also collates
explanatory variables from prior studies and develops a unique valuation model for goalkeepers.
The final goal is to evaluate the variables that contribute to players’ transfer fees and use the
model prospectively to estimate the value of players.
