ANALYSIS OF GREEN GROWTH AND SKILL DEMAND OF NEW RENEWABLE ENERGY INDUSTRY IN KOREA

ABSTRACT
Korea is now switching from the fossil fuel-driven energy to an eco-friendly low carbon
society based on renewable energy. The Green growth movement has become a key value that
Korea’s society must now pursue. It is necessary to pioneer new markets by developing new green
technologies and to promote green growth in existing industries. Over the last 20 years, the
growth rate of the renewable energy industry has been between 20 to 40 percent, which is much
higher compared to the 2 to 3 percent of other industries. Green energy-related industries are
leading the world market and with the increase of green energy production, they have shown
remarkable results regarding job opportunity.
This study analyzed cases in Korea’s green industries, green growth and human resources
development strategies, and the forecasting of green growth manpower.
