FACTORS AFFECTING THE ECONOMICS KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF K-12 SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS

ABSTRACT
This study involves a data set that is used for an exploratory investigation of possible
factors that affect K-12 teachers’ knowledge and understanding of economic theory and
principles. Drawing from a variety of effective educational practices, the literature on
economic education suggests that teaching and learning implies the mastering and retention
of basic economic theory and concepts. Pre-course and post-course normed and standardized
economics tests were administered to the teachers to measure their level of economic
knowledge before and after they had participated in an economic education program.
Regression analysis was used to test the variables under investigation that affect teacher
performance in learning of economics.
