FACTORS AFFECTING THE PRODUCTIVITY OF CLERICAL EMPLOYEES IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF COOK COUNTY IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

ABSTRACT
Like many government agencies, the administration of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois,
has faced fiscal challenges. The clerical employees of Cook County administration are not
performing their jobs at satisfactory levels; therefore, their performance has resulted in low
productivity. The low level of productivity prompted the Cook County auditor to report that the
clerical employees lack efficiency, insufficient accounting methods, and engage in outdated office
procedures. Thus, the technology systems at Cook County are also outdated.
This study intends to find out whether the four demographic variables (educational
levels, years of service, salary range, & job training skills) can significantly predict the
productivity of clerical employees in Cook County administration in Chicago, Illinois. Using a
sample from Cook County administration in Cook County, the findings of this study indicate that
none of the four demographic variables could significantly predict the clerical employees’
productivity in Cook County administration Chicago, Illinois.
