ABSTRACT
Among the most difficult questions leaders must address are why must so many suffer?!
Why do humans kill, maim, abuse, and destroy one another . . . and, even more importantly, what
can be done to stop this onslaught of evil? This article asserts that the answer to that question can
be found by understanding the spiritual aspect of human existence, which involves connectedness.
Spirituality and connectedness are defined and discussed, evidence of spiritual decay is proffered
and explained, and a proposal for leadership based on embracing the humanity of others through
forgiveness and restorative justice is outlined.
