ABSTRACT
This study explores the concept of knowledge management and provides an overview of
related issues. There is discussion of the challenges that knowledge management presents to
organizations in a dynamic culture, and how these challenges may be overcome. Managers
ordinarily develop a working definition and policies related to knowledge management within
their organizations; however, ensuring that the culture is conducive to the sharing of knowledge
among employees is critical. Articulating tacit knowledge is difficult and can create problems in
achieving knowledge transfer. Implementation of information technology resources to share
explicit knowledge may be difficult due to a possible lack of resources or lack of understanding
the issues at hand. If the organization has not properly planned and acquired resources for
transitioning to a knowledge-oriented process and culture, major problems will develop for
management and the organization. Trained personnel who are willing to share their knowledge
are crucial in the quest to establish or enhance knowledge management for organizational
success.
