ABSTRACT

The political leadership in Nigeria has been constrained to see justification for military funding. In their perception, the military has no direct economic utility and contribution to the nation’s economic growth; thus, the raison d’être for further funding is usually fraught with contestations and even criticisms. It is against this background that this study discusses the need for strategic funding of the military. This study identifies the major security challenges facing Nigeria. It conceptualized strategic funding within the context of targeted funding, intelligence, research and development (R&D), as well as training.
