ABSTRACT

This study examined the effect of corporate culture dimensions (competitive, entrepreneurial, bureaucratic, and consensual cultures) on managerial leadership styles (Democratic, Autocratic, Laissez-faire -faire). Utilizing a random sample selected from seven major oil companies in Nigeria, the results of this study revealed that competitive, entrepreneurial and consensual corporate cultures have a significant and positive influence on democratic leadership style. Similarly, entrepreneurial and consensual corporate cultures have a significant and positive influence on laisser-faire leadership style. Bureaucratic and consensual organizational cultures were found to have a significant and positive influence on autocratic leadership style. Conversely, bureaucratic organizational culture has a negative relationship with democratic and laisser-faire leadership styles. Competitive organizational culture has a negative relationship with autocratic and laisser-faire leadership styles. The relationship between entrepreneurial organizational culture and autocratic leadership style was also found to be negative.
