UNEMPLOYMENT, AN ECONOMIC PROBLEM OR A SOCIAL ISSUE: EMPIRICAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
This study examines the factors that have been contributing to high unemployment rates
in the United States in the recent years. It looks at both the economic and social factors as well as
the labor force’s employability, specialization, and the impact of technology, U.S. Government
policies, Immigration policies and laws, Internal Revenue Code tax laws. It discusses the costs of
unemployment from the economic, financial, social, and psychological perspectives and explores
how unemployment can be reduced by humanizing the workplace.
